Oh for shame!
Yeah, Hawk, you left me all alone and unsupervised in the blog! What were you thinking? I could have severely injured the readers. Gosh.
Anyway! STATES. YES. EXCITED!
And I turned in my summer internship application RIGHT ON TIME (and 2 months late...). I made it before the deadline, so it's all good.
Hmm, anyway, inspired by recent events:
Whatever happened to freedom of speech/expression? Specifically, at what point should fear of retribution or paranoia hamper a person's expression of an idea?
A little bit of background: I was painting a masked, armed robber to demonstrate misuse of masks. My parents freaked out and said what can basically be summarized as "OMG IT'S A TERRORIST THE FBI WILL ARREST YOU AND YOU'LL FAIL AP ART IF YOU SUBMIT THAT IN YOUR PORTFOLIO"
I very frequently disagree with my parents, but I thought this was highly amusing, especially their tirade about the government's paranoia.
Their suggestion: Don't express anything political or controversial.
Well then, what would I use art for? Art is meant for expression controversial ideas. I am by no means an activist of anything, but even I occasionally would like to express controversial ideas in visual form. Y'know, only on special occasions, that sort of thing.
At the risk of sounding like a radical, this paranoia about the government's paranoia (though hilarious) is what allows dictators to rise as fast as they do. (...did I just say that?)
At any rate, those are my thoughts on the matter.
Also: in my mother's words, "Girls are supposed to paint pretty, positive things."
Response: No.
I'm too tired to blog about gender stereotypes right now. Please leave a message after the beep.
Anyway
Ugly is the new beautiful!
Ogres are in! Mermaids are out!
It basically boils down to this: There is eye-candy, and there is art.
Bah, I sound like an artist elitist. Oh well, I shall enjoy myself while I do!

APs and States and Nationals, oh my!
So I just noticed that I haven't contributed much to this blog in a while. I've left Quail alone to entertain all of you. Yes, all two of you out there who read this. Shame on me.
I remember that I used to look forward to school. Or at least not mind it. Since when has it become this senseless drudgery of memorization? Where did the individualism, the excitement, the spirit of discovery go?
I bet cynics will tell me that I've been walking around with my eyes closed, banging off the walls, for the past sixteen years. I've just realized this now?!
Anyway. The school year is finally starting to wind down along with my self-galvanization capacities. Previously I've attacked school like the Energizer Bunny, with a stupid grin on my face, unending banging noises, and a pink, fluffy, cuddly personality. Oh, and gigantic quads (There's a story behind that involving Walgreen's oddly proportioned plushies, but I digress). But this is when I need my energy the most! APs are coming, my SAT2s are around the corner, and I couldn't care less.
About the title of this post. Well, only the first two are immediate concerns. Oly and APs. Because my teammates are so kickass, I've got the potential to make it to nationals for not one but TWO activities. Exciting when you consider that the two nationals are two weeks in a row. But leading up to them I've got pre-AP qualifiers. Isn't that great?
Goodness. I can't wait for summer. I got into this research program that I'm UBER excited about. Except I need to survive until then.

Semi-Weekly Update
After that extreme lack of focus and productivity, I seem to have bounced back (maybe a little too well....) and am somewhat back on track
Garage=haven of productivity.
Observation of the day: Some good techno and a badminton racket can work wonders on a bored mind. When in doubt, rock out.
I am also ridiculously excited for States for Scioly. WE WILL KICK BUTT AND WE WILL KICK IT GOOD.
In the process of designing shirts for the team!
Flailing Quail shirt will have to wait until a little more free time comes my way. Bah humbug.

Rest, Relaxation, and Ruin.
Contrary to the feeling of euphoria that the alligator (crocodile?) in my previous post may inspire, break to juniors is nothing more than a week of school without actual classtime. Health problems also became an issue.
Hence this week was a total disaster, as my non-rested mind and body flubbered at numerous competitions.
Well, putting things in perspective, there's one more chance.
Let's medal.

Oh dear
Hmm, I apologize for the recent inactivity. Spring break took a lot out me, and Hawk was sick.
At any rate, a brief leave of absence from the internet seems to be the order of the day here, because Life is not cooperating.
I attribute it to an extreme lack of focus. It's weeks like this I wish I had ADD so I could take ADD meds. But not really, because taking meds is not fun.
Upcoming events:
Science olympiad! HAPPY FUN TIME FOR ALL.
AP art late night out: Man, I was hoping I could have pulled an all nighter at school
