Forever and a Day

Three weeks into college, and it alternately feels like forever and no time at all. Honestly, what with age-related time distortion and a less-than-stellar sense of reality, I'm going to be living in permanent fast-forward for the next four years.

Of course, this doesn't excuse my lack of postage (I don't even have stamps!), but I'm settling in nicely. College is certainly a change in pace. I spend about the same amount of time lounging around in the common room, but solitude is sorely lacking (both an good and bad thing).

So far, I have:
  • Played Poker Face nearly 20 times a day
  • Stayed up until 7:30 AM doing Computer Science problems
  • Become stressed out
  • laughed uproariously with roommates
  • had a miniature party in suite, with I'm on a Boat blaring out of my speakers
  • jumped in puddles with new rain boots
  • learned how to text
  • tried (and failed) to organize my life
  • drilled holes in the wall
  • grown chives
  • become dehydrated (or was that low blood sugar in the morning?)
  • done nothing for an entire day
  • talked to old friends every day of the week
  • IMed my brother more than I ever have at home
  • Fallen asleep on the futon
  • taken apart my computer
  • assembled Ikea furniture
  • ....and a host of other things.
All and all, I'd say it's a pretty good experience so far. More reports to come when I get some sleep in my system.

An image-heavy post.

In addition to the UK, we have someone visiting from Omaha, Nebraska!

Tracking page-views is inordinately amusing.

So, since life is generally looking up (except for some missing stuff D: ), I'm going to talk about....

Hmm...

Carrots.

Carrots are delicious. Yum yum. Carrots. Excellent.

I'm growing carrots in my room.

I eat carrots every day for lunch.

And now I shall post some pictures and videos of Ikea that didn't get posted in the last installment.

IT FINALLY HAPPENED

"Ikea: just some oak and some pine and a handful of Norsemen
Ikea: selling furniture for college kids and divorced men
Everyone has a home
But if you don't have a home you can buy one there

So rent a car or take the bus

Lay your cash down and put your trust

In the land where the furniture folds to a much smaller size
Billy the bookcase says hello
And so does a table whose name is Ingo

And the chair is a ladder-back birch but his friends call him Karl"

Jonathan Coulton, lyrics to Ikea

I'm so proud. So proud!
This blog has reached a milestone! Let's declare today a national holiday!

...what's that you say? It already is one?

WELL THEN. There we go. The government foresaw this wondrous day and decided to declare this day a holiday in honor of the momentous event that has occurred today.

WE FINALLY WENT TO IKEA

Hawk and Quail and a random passerby (we shall call him the "brananaman"), whom we kidnapped, set off on our journey and came out as changed people.

Happy belated birthday to Hawk! We hope you enjoyed your present :D

And now for some scenes and pictures!

.

Shit, I can't handle this. I can't live with this sense of impending doom.

Therefore, I'll just live for Monday. Thank the powers that be for Labor day. And Ikea, to which we are taking Hawky dear as a birthday present :D

You had better be able to go :D

Quail apologizes for being remiss in her posting duties. Regular updates will resume (with alarming regularity) after the future has lightened up a bit. e.g. when auditions aren't 2 days away.

...

Quail is thoroughly exhausted from work compounded with bassoon practice for the upcoming tour.

Whew, it's amazing how great it feels to be tired after being (kind of ) productive all day.

A few tips for Hawk: Watch your laundry in the laundry room! Move it from the washer to the dryer and then back to your room so that you don't stop up the washing machines and so that people don't steal your clothes (that happened at CSSSA). Also, don't set the dryer too hot, otherwise your clothes will shrink. Not fun.

Bring lots of snacks! When you're back in your dorm, you get hungry. Especially if the shops are far and the cafeteria is closed. Also, don't put your food in the same place you put your bag of laundry detergent.

Hmm, if you have dorm-mates, be sure to get along with them.
Introduce yourself to everyone and don't be afraid to come off as strange!
Bring sandals. Well, unless you think you don't need them.
Don't forget a cellphone charger and stuff like that! And your laptop if you're bringing it :D

Otherwise....HAVE FUN, WORK HARD, PLAY HARD, AND UPDATE THE BLOG EVERY DAY! Or at least every other day. I dunno, you could keep a food report?

So, have you gotten a pretty bag yet? And didja get shoes?

Oh wow, Quail hasn't watched TV in years. Crazy.

So now a little update about Quail.

CYS practice right after work makes Quail really drained. Also, her bassoon was incredibly out of tune all three days because it was crazy hot.

She still has to pack for Japan

After that initial productivity spike at work, the productivity level has fallen to all-time lows. Now she plays tetris with magnetic wooden blocks and hangman with her co-intern. Also, we have 3 people in a cubicle, which means that all three people are trying to work on the same program at the same time. Crazy.

CRAZY FUN, YOU MEAN!

She still has to write an unpleasant email.

She needs to draw stuff. Lots and lots of stuff.

Won't meet her supervisor for another 2 weeks, in which time all the other interns will be hard at work on their projects D:

Is tired and needs to play more bassoon.

ALSO:
HAAAAAAWWWWWK! What's the status update on IKEA?

It's hideous!

Hot pink plaid board shorts. That's all I'm going to say.

Oh, and WE FINALLY GET TO TAKE HAWK TO IKEA : D

Edit: Plans foiled. Darn.

I have an idea, let's go to Ikea!

Quail has a new camera! Yay!

And yes, Quail is ashamed of Hawk for never going to Ikea. SHAAAAAME.
Hawk thought Ikea was "just like Macy's, but with furniture, right?"

Hopeless girl. We shall change that soon enough.

FIND TIME TO GO TO IKEA AND GET A RIDE DAMMIT.

And next weeks is "All the projects are due!" week, which means after that week, I have nothing except a math final. Wheeeee!

Oh and
Quail is growing carrots : D
Very happy making time.

Spontaneity is key

So, one May day, in a galaxy far far away from semester-end projects, cons, and impending doom/finals...

Two birds were having a conversation during the allotted 30 minutes (which is NOT 30 minutes if one needs to relieve oneself and thus wastes 17 of those 30 minutes standing in line in a stinky, unaerated water closet -_-) of consumption. Upon learning that Hawk had never been to IKEA, Quail was horrified and turned her feathery back upon the other. The amity between the two seemed to be unrepairable. But once the shock wore off, Quail was recovered enough to rattle off a list of driving directions.

However, Hawk is directionally challenged and will need a GPS to get out of her driveway once she bestirs her feathery butt enough to get her permit/license.

Never one to be deterred, Quail declared that the two were going to IKEA "right now."

We made it across the school and into the parking lot before the bell rang.

It's moments like these that make high school worth it ^_^.
